"Medical gaslighting" is a buzzy term that continues to pop up in health conversations. According to research, diagnostic errors may occur in around one out of every seven encounters between a doctor and a patient. Women, people of color, and the elderly are far more likely to experience these types of misdiagnoses because of implicit biases or a lack of information in current medical understanding. Their feelings of being dismissed by medical practitioners are as real as their pain, but the root causes behind this phenomenon are less clear.
